Idlewold originated in 1914 by Mr. Charles McCarty and his son, Glenn, for a recreational area. Idlewold is located on the old Peter Mingle farm. PeteMingle was the grandfather of Glenn McCarty. Idlewold was named by Dr. L.E. Alexander.

A dam was built across Fall Creek, the remains of which can be seen today just below the present pump house. The lake formed by the dam was used for boating and canoeing. Another dam was built about 300 yards above the first dam People bathing at Idlewold Country Club Everyone loved the swimming hole at Idlewold.

forming a swimming pool that proved very popular. The water front area was used extensively for picnicking and sports. Five cabins were erected in the wooded area and were rented to summer vacationers. Other cottages were added from time to time.

In 1921, dining room and kitchen buildings were erected. Mr. & Mrs. Charles McCarty and son, Glenn and daughter, Mrs. Raymond Rogers, served chicken dinners exclusively, by reservation, for several years. In the same year, the original nine hole golf course was opened. In 1928, the back nine was added.

A flowing artesian well was located about fifty feet northeast of the kitchen. This water was considered medicinal. For several years, people came from miles around to drink it and carry it home in jugs.

In 1929, a miniature golf course wa built just south of the club house. It was operated for four years and discontinued.

Dr. Joe Shirley purchased Idlewold in 1945. A Corporation was formed in 1946 and purchased Idlewold from Dr. Shirley. It then became known as Idlewold Golf and Country Club Incorporated. That same year a beautiful club house was built, using the original club house as a nucleus. In December of 1952, this club house burned to the ground. A temporary club house was established in a frame cottage and additions were made a various times.

In 1960, the present club house was built. The swimming pool was added in 1965. In 1970 the aluminum building, housing the pro shop and golf carts, was erected.

On December 30, 2008 the golf course was sold to the town of Pendleton, and the name is now Fall Creek Golf Club. Fall Creek Golf Club is a public golf course which runs along the banks of fall creek. The fairways are tree lined, the greens are small, and the terrain is rolling. Fall Creek Golf Club has a active Mens and Ladies Club that will have weekend tournaments. We also have Friday night mixed events and Saturday night couples. Fall Creek Golf Course also offers junior leagues and clinics for kids.
